SQUAMISH 50: Weeks 10 & 11

The first attempt at a 50-miler. Admittedly, the first attempt at a training plan. And what I presume to be a 24-week journey of big ups and, I’m sure, gigantic downs.

Follow the leaps, face plants and lessons learned every Sunday for the SQ50 high-or-lowlight of the week.

Weeks 10 & 11: The Weeks I Started Running Again

Well folks, I’ve been given the a-ok to start hitting the trails again! It was about the best news a girl could have received.

I have begun to reintroduce a little bit of running into the weekly routine (albeit with much caution), and my, does it feel fabulous.

Week 10 Total Mileage: 3.6 km

Week 11 Total Mileage: 6 km

While those numbers are but a small fraction of what they used to be, I am delighted that there are numbers to report at all.

What Lies Ahead:

Next weekend, my SQ50 partner and I head down to DC to tackle The North Face Endurance Challenge.

I registered for 42.2 km. I bartered with my physiotherapist to let me run 21 km. I’ve been permitted to run the 10 km.

If we’re being truthful, my sentiments are somewhat scrambled when it comes to this race. Should I be frustrated? Or elated?

In the simplest of terms, it states how much of my running ability I have lost, and how much time and patience it is going to take to get back to where I once was.

Having said that, this will be the first race of the season: Regardless of how many kilometers I will be running, I am super psyched be there. No matter what the year wants to toss my way, I’m going to ensure it’s a good one. ❤
